The Foundry is SYC’s purpose-built youth hub, providing a welcoming space where young people can explore the world around them, discover their strengths and shape their futures. We are seeking a highly motivated leader to join our The Foundry team on a full-time, fixed term (12-month contract) basis.

You will be responsible for providing effective day-to-day leadership and working collaboratively with our The Foundry team to achieve positive outcomes for young people. You will guide the team to provide direct service and supports to young people to increase their independent skills and wellbeing.

The day-to-day activities will include:

• Building and promoting a positive and thriving community space that supports young people to develop connections and navigate services available.
• Leading and managing a team of volunteers and youth workers, providing guidance, support, and supervision.
• Establishing positive and creative connections with partners and stakeholders to build the capacity of the young people in engaging with their local community.
• Monitoring the quality and effectiveness of service delivery and identify emerging trends, service gaps, risks and opportunities requiring action or escalation
• Act as the primary operation site contact when required, coordinating property, maintenance, supplies and handling incidents, complaints, feedback and safeguarding concerns are appropriately responded to, documented and escalated in accordance with SYC requirements.

About you

As a natural leader you know how to effectively lead a team and work in a collaborative team environment. You will have exceptional time management skills and organisational skills and be able to plan and coordinate resources to meet program delivery and client needs to achieve set targets within deadlines.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:  

• Experience in engaging and working with people who are at risk of or have lived experience such as homelessness, mental health issues or substance misuse.
• The ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively and sensitively with young people from diverse backgrounds.
• Interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills along with the ability to identify innovative and lateral solutions to problems.

Key screening and requirements: 

• Tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, Mental Health, Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or currently working towards a qualification.
• Be willing to complete a Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
• Be eligible to work in Australia.
