Therapeutic Care Team Leader
Multiple Locations - Part Time

SYC’s Specialised Residential Care (SRC) program supports children and young people who have experienced significant trauma, abuse, and neglect by utilising a therapeutic approach. Our dedicated team work with children and young people to achieve emotional wellbeing and personal growth.


We are looking for experienced and motivated Therapeutic Care Team Leaders to join our dynamic team on a part-time (0.8 FTE), permanent, basis. This role is primarily based in the allocated home with some travel to our Kent Town head office and/or other SYC office based locations. Our homes that require a Team Leader’s supervision are located in the Northern suburbs within the Barossa, Tea Tree Gully and Gawler councils and one located in the Southern suburbs in the Mitcham council.

As a Therapeutic Care Team Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of therapeutic care workers in the home and ensuring the delivery of high-quality therapeutic care services to children and young people residing in the home. You will play a crucial role in providing guidance to your team, while also actively participating in the care process and ensuring practice in the homes is consistently upholding the therapeutic framework.

Key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to:

  • Building and promoting a positive and thriving community that supports the children and young people residing in the home.
  • Conducting regular operational supervision meetings with the Therapeutic Care Workers (TCWs) in the assigned home.
  • Providing mentorship and support to team members, ensuring they have the necessary resources and training to deliver exceptional care.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders in the creation and implementation of individualised transition plans for children and young people moving into and out of the home.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate completion of all administrative tasks, including financial oversight, timesheets, leave requests, and writing case notes and incident reports.

About You

As a natural and experienced leader, you will lead a team and work in a collaborative environment. You will oversee the daily operations of the home, ensuring practice is consistent, predictable, and aligned with organisational expectations, compliance requirements, and trauma-informed principles.

You will use a therapeutically attuned, trauma-informed approach to support young people to feel safe, settled, and valued within a nurturing, home-like environment. You will promote the development of independent living skills, encourage positive engagement with the local community, and foster a strong sense of belonging. Working collaboratively and respectfully, you will support young people to identify, pursue, and achieve their individual goals and aspirations, while recognising and building on their strengths.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Previous experience working with children and young people with complex trauma.
  • Strong engagement skills and interpersonal skills giving the ability to interact effectively and sensitively with young people, families, peers, and other service providers to achieve positive outcomes.
  • The attention to detail allowing one to navigate challenges with confidence and understanding.
  • Strong leadership capability and previous experience leading a team that works across a 24/7 roster.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills to ensure all professionals have timely and accurate information.

For this role, you will need to:

  • Have the ability to participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster.
  • Hold a minimum Certificate IV qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Youth Work, Social Work, Social Science, Counselling) or currently actively working towards a recognised relevant qualification in accordance with DCP requirements.
  • Hold a current and valid Working with Children Check and National Police Check
  • Hold a current and valid First Aid & CPR certificate
  • Hold a current and valid Full Driver’s Licence
  • Have previously completed and passed a Psychological Assessment (or willing to complete one)
  • Hold a current and valid Safe Environments for Children & Young People: Through Their Eyes (including refreshers)
  • Be eligible to work in Australia
