Aboriginal Employment Mentor
Full Time - Eastern Melbourne

SYC delivers employment services at over 50 locations throughout Australia. The Aboriginal Employment Mentor actively engages with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants across SYC’s Employment Services caseload. This role will benefit from providing support to motivate, upskill, and secure sustainable and compliant employment outcomes while working within a supportive and results driven team.

 

This is a mobile role, and the successful candidate will work across multiple sites across Eastern Melbourne. 

 

In this role, you’ll be part of a supportive and result driven team who are dedicated to our vision of wellbeing, independence and opportunity for everyone. Key responsibilities for this role include but not limited to:  

  • Build mutually beneficial relationships with employers, Aboriginal organisations and communities, Registered Training Organisations and Apprenticeship Support Australia centres
  • Actively engage with employers, key employees, and participants to secure sustainable employment outcomes.
  • Attend careers, indigenous and other networking events to promote SYC Employment Services
  • Provide mentoring support to positively address challenges which may place employment at risk.

About You

As someone who enjoys working autonomously within a broader team environment, you will be passionate about developing relationships with employers, relevant stakeholders, and participants to develop skills and access activities generating new pathways to employment. You will be outcomes focused and enjoy the challenge of meeting targets and deadlines. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Previous experience working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients of all ages, including those with high level and complex needs is highly desirable
  • Strong engagement skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills with well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written skills, and the ability to conduct client assessments, developing case plans and case notes and report writing 
  • Self-motivation and initiative, with well-developed organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines and attend to multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills along with the ability to identify innovative and lateral solutions to problems.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Coaching or Mentoring, Training and Assessment, Employment Services or Community Services) is desirable
  • Must have a current and valid driver's licence and your own registered vehicle with a 4 or 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

For this role, you will need to:

  • Be willing to complete a Working with Children Check and National Police Check
  • Possession of a current valid Driver’s Licence and willingness to drive is essential.
  • Be eligible to work in Australia
