Counsellor / Provisional Psychologist
Full Time - Adelaide South Region

Reporting to the Regional Manager, this is an exciting opportunity to join SYC as part of our Employment portfolio, working across the Adelaide South and regional areas to provide high quality employment focused counselling and case management services to participants via in-person or telehealth appointments.  In this role you will support participants experiencing non‑vocational barriers - such as mental health challenges, confidence, motivation, and life complexity - to progress towards sustainable and meaningful employment outcomes.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide counselling, psychoeducation and therapeutic interventions tailored to participants’ needs.
  • Support participants to address barriers impacting employment (e.g. mental health, emotional regulation, confidence, motivation, social functioning)
  • Deliver brief interventions in line with service timeframes and outcomes.
  • Facilitate referrals to external support services and advocate on behalf of participants with services as required.
  • Support participants to identify strengths, goals, and pathways toward sustainable employment.
  • Work collaboratively with Employment Coaches and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate, timely case notes and detailed reports and/or assessments aligned with compliance requirements.

This role would suit a provisional psychologist or recent graduate looking to broaden their practical real-world experience, develop case management and therapeutic skills, and practice.

 

This position involves travel across metropolitan Adelaide, with some work in regional locations including Goolwa, Mount Barker and Murray Bridge.

 

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary/degree qualification in Psychology.
  • Experience supporting individuals with non-vocational or employment-related challenges, including mental health or psychosocial barriers.
  • Strong understanding of recovery‑oriented, trauma‑informed, and person‑centred practice.
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing, CBT‑informed or solution‑focused approaches.
  • Ability to deliver outcome‑focused interventions in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and documentation skills.
  • Experience in employment services, community services, or similar settings (desirable).
  • Experience in completing neurological disorder assessments and supporting accurate diagnosis in line with best practice.

Key screening requirements:

  • Must be willing to complete a Working with Children Check, National Police Check and Bankruptcy Check.
  • Possession of a current valid Driver’s License, willingness to drive
  • Be eligible to work in Australia.
